Before we begin
You’ve trusted us with something precious — your child’s story time. We don’t take that lightly.
This page is our way of being open with you about how Once Upon A Storytime works — what we remember, what we don’t, and why. We’ve tried to write it the way we’d explain it to a friend sitting across the table, not the way a legal department might. So take your time. We’re not going anywhere.
Who we are
We are Once Upon A Storytime — onceuponastorytime.in — India’s home for children’s stories rooted in culture, warmth, and wonder. Every story we tell, every feature we build, is made with one question in mind: is this good for the child reading it tonight?
What we collect — and why
When you write to us
If you reach out through our contact form, we receive your name, email address, and message — along with some basic technical details like your IP address and browser type. We use these only to write back to you and to keep spam at bay. Nothing else.
Cookies — the small helpful kind
Cookies are tiny files that help a website remember you between visits. Here is what ours actually do:
- If you fill in our contact form and choose to save your details, a cookie holds your name and email for up to a year — so you don’t have to type them again next time.
- A brief, temporary cookie checks whether your browser accepts cookies at all. It carries no personal information and vanishes the moment you close your browser.
Reading progress — remembered quietly, just for you (new April 2026)
Have you ever closed a story halfway through and wondered if you’d find your place again? We thought about that.
When you visit a story, the website gently saves where you left off — whether you were reading, listening, or exploring a flipbook. That’s what brings up the little “Continue Tonight” shelf on the homepage the next time you visit.
This all happens inside your own browser. It never travels to our servers, it isn’t linked to your name or any account, and it doesn’t follow you anywhere. Think of it as a bookmark that lives only on your device. You can clear it any time by clearing your browser’s site data — and if you’d rather start fresh each visit, that works perfectly too.
The app and offline reading (new April 2026)
Once Upon A Storytime can be installed as an app on your phone or tablet — straight from your browser, no app store needed. Once you’ve installed it and visited a few stories, those pages are quietly saved to your device so you can open them again even without an internet connection.
This is especially handy on a long journey or when the Wi-Fi goes out right at bedtime. The saving happens entirely on your device — your browser manages it, and nothing is sent back to us as a result. You can remove everything by uninstalling the app or clearing your browser’s storage whenever you like.
Our weekly story newsletter (new April 2026)
If you’d like a free bedtime story in your inbox every week, you can subscribe using the sign-up form on our website. All we ask for is your email address, and all we send is stories.
We don’t use your address for advertising, and we don’t share it. Every email includes an unsubscribe link — one tap and you’re off the list, no questions asked. Our newsletter is delivered through a trusted third-party email service, which handles delivery in keeping with its own privacy standards.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how families find and move through our stories — which ones they linger on, which formats they prefer, where in the world they’re reading from. It helps us keep making Once Upon A Storytime better.
Google Analytics works with anonymised data — it can’t identify you personally. If you’d prefer to opt out entirely, you can do so with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
When you follow a link beyond our website
Some of our pages include audio and video from Spotify or YouTube. When you interact with those, those platforms may set their own cookies — as if you’d visited them directly.
Our website also links out to our WhatsApp Channel, and to Amazon and Flipkart for book purchases. When you follow those links, you move into their spaces, and their privacy policies apply. We’d encourage you to take a look at those if you’re curious about how they handle your data — but know that what happens there is beyond our hands.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your data. We do not rent it or trade it. Full stop.
The only times information moves beyond this website are these:
- If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in that email — a standard security step.
- Contact form submissions pass through an automated spam filter.
- Google Analytics receives anonymised usage data, as described above.
- If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is held by our email delivery provider.
That is genuinely all.
How long we hold on to things
We keep contact form submissions for as long as it takes to respond fully to your message. If you’ve created an account, your profile stays with us while your account is active. Newsletter subscribers remain on our list until they choose to leave.
Your reading progress and offline story cache live only in your browser — they’re yours to keep or clear, entirely on your terms.
Your rights
If you’ve sent us a message or have an account with us, you have every right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it removed. We’ll respond promptly — and gladly.
The only exception is where we’re legally required to retain something. That’s rare, and we’ll tell you if it applies.
To make a request, just reach out through our contact form. We’re listening.
Stories teach us that trust is earned, not assumed. We hope this policy shows you that we mean to earn yours — every visit, every story, every time.
